The number of finalists of the Open International Competition to develop a master plan for the research and technology districts of the Sirius federal territory will be doubled. This was announced by Elena Shmelyova, Chair of the Council of the Federal Territory and Head of the Talent and Success Educational Foundation. "The architectural competition we announced at the beginning of the year continues successfully, and now almost all the largest countries of the world are represented in the project. The geography of our jury is also expanding, as heads of the largest industry organizations from the BRICS countries agreed to participate. Considering this keen and genuine interest, we decided to increase the number of finalists to six. Also, we will be happy to continue dialogue, including on other development projects, with those who will not make it to the finals. Such attention to the competition once again emphasizes that the Sirius federal territory is not just a new hot spot for talents, but also an active interdisciplinary institute that creates an environment for upbringing, self-fulfillment and professional development. Behind the search for answers to the Big Challenges facing the country and humanity, it brings together educational, cultural, scientific and technological efforts aimed at achieving national goals," Elena Shmelyova emphasized.
The receipt of applications from potential participants is currently ongoing, and will last until May 30. On June 25, the jury will select the finalists, each of whom will receive 4 million rubles. The winner will be determined on November 13, and will be paid an extra reward of 5 million. For the second place, this extra reward will be 3 million rubles, and 2 million rubles for the third one. Therefore, the prize fund increases by 12 million to 34 million.
But material reward is far from the only incentive for participation, according to Sergei Georgievskii, the representative of the competition operator, Co-Founder and Chair of the Expert Council of Agency for Strategic Development “CENTER”: “The contest is designed to unite the efforts of leading architects and urban planners from around the world. Foreign participants will develop their proposals together with Russian colleagues, as a result, the federal territory will receive the strongest solutions for its development, and participants are given an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable experience of cooperation and implementation of the most advanced projects where the most favorable conditions have been created for this."
The master plan should determine the key scenarios for spatial organization and functional development of two plots of 19.4 and 23.1 hectares. The first is planned for the construction of specialized and residential real estate, as well as the development of high-tech medicine specializing in combating cancer and ensuring healthy longevity. The other is planned to host the second phase of the Sirius University campus, as well as create a high-tech district with laboratories, engineering infrastructure, data centers, pilot productions, including for the development of resource-saving energy, intelligent transport (including autonomous) and telecommunication systems, technologies for safe storage and processing of information.
